LINCOLN COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM
AND WORLD WAR II CANTEEN

Over 100 years of history is reserved and attractively displayed at the
Lincoln County Historical Museum. Authentic tools, weapons, wagons,
buildings and other remnants of the frontiers era are among the
thousands of items on display.

From December, 1941 to April 1, 1946, the name and fame of North Platte
traveled all over the world, wherever men and women in the U.S. armed
forces were stationed. Every day from 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers, sailors
and marines visited the North Platte Canteen in the Union Pacific Depot.
During a ten minute stop, they were supplied with coffee, sandwiches
and cigarettes, given a handful of current magazines and sent on their
way, warmed not only by the hot coffee, but by the smiles and friendly
greetings of the busy canteen workers. A permanent , interpetive display is headquartered at the museum.

CODY PARK RAILROAD MUSEUM

On display at the Cody Park Railroad Museum is the Pacific's Challenger
3977, one of the largest steam locomotives ever built. It was one of 105
such engines built by the American Locomotive Company of New York.
There are two remaining "3900" class locomotives, and the only one in
the world on public display is the center of the Union Pacific Museum
in North Platte. Accompanying the 3977 is Unit 6922 and other railroad
cars along with a rail depot fully restored to its original state.

BAILEY YARDS - UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD

Witness current railroad history in the making when you visit Union Pacific's
Bailey Yards, the largest rail car classification complex in the world.
Spectacular by day or night, you can get a panoramic view of this facility
at the visitors observation deck. At the top of the twelve step platform, you'll
hear an eight minute audio presentation of this magnificent railroad facility.

FORT MCPHERSON NATIONAL CEMETERY

On March 3, 1873, Ft. McPherson National Cemetey was established on a
107 acre tract of the Ft. McPherson Military Reservation. This resulted from
an Act of Congress which provided for the burial of all honorably discharged
Union veterans of the Civil War in National Cemeteries, if they so desired.
Ft. McPherson National Cemetery is the only National cemetery in Nebraska
and has become the final resting place for soldiers of all wars. There are over
70 Buffalo Soldiers, two of which are the recipients of the Medal of Honor.
The ordered rows of white marble headstones lay in the Platte River Valley just
13 miles east of North Platte.

VALLEY VIEW GUEST RANCH

The horses will be ready to mount and you will begin the old time adventure
as you and your guide ride the land where the soldiers from Ft. McPherson
rode, scouting for Indians. The trails wander through the beautiful cedar
studded hills and valleys. Your route will include many points of interest where
breathtaking views can be recorded on film.

BUFFALO BILL'S STATE HISTORICAL PARK

No one personifies the frontier spirit better than Buffalo Bill Cody, the West's most colorful showman. You can get to know Buffalo Bill, the man, the legend and the memories at Buffalo Bill Ranch. Built in 1886 by Buffalo Bill, the Buffalo Bill Ranch is now a 25 acre State Historical Park. Mementos of Cody's career as an army scout, Indian fighter, buffalo hunter and Wild West promoter are displayed in his luxurious18 room mansion and colorful horse barn, which have been preserved to the finest detail. From Memorial Day to Labor Day the house and barn are open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The house and barn are open in April, May, September and October 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, closed on weekends. Trail Rides are available Memorial Day to Labor Day.

NEBRASKALAND DAYS

Held annually in June, North Platte explodes into a celebration billed as "one
of the top 100 events in North America" by the American Bus Association.
Nebraskaland Days kicks off with a four-night PRCA Buffalo Bill Rodeo,
along with top musical entertainers, Western celebrities, parades, shoot-outs,
barbecues, dances and tournaments of every kind. Nebraskaland Days is
an action-packed week of western excitement you won't want to miss.

T & T RODEO

Experience the action of the Wild West Rodeo in North Platte. Buffalo Bill
organized the bronc riding contest to help celebrate Independence Day in
1882 and thus the rodeo was born. Today that spirit lives at the T & T
Spectacular, Nebraska's only rodeo running Wednesday and Thursday nights
during the month of July. Enjoy the buffalo stew cookout at Buffalo Bill
State Historical Park and then venture across the road to the Wild West
Arena for the Wild West Rodeo.
